Denton Chess Club have organised a simultaneous chess display featuring Mr Nigel Short M.B.E and CJ de Mooi. CJ de Mooi, of Eggheads fame is the English Chess Federation president.
Mr.Nigel Short MBE will be playing 30 games of chess simultaneously after an hours lecture on a chess related topic.
CJ and Nigel Short will be presenting various prizes at the end of the evening. The costs are £1000 for Nigel Short and CJ, part of which they are donating to charity, plus £75 for the room hire at the Ukrainian club. That means we have means we have to charge £35 for those playing in the simultaneous and £5 for entry for spectators, parents or carers will not be charged...Nor will accredited representatives of the media.
Any sponsorship money would be used to reduce the cost to players and enable us to offer a reduced rate for juniors.
The South-east Lancashire summer league is paying £30 for one player from each club that has played in the summer league.
We are trying to get sponsorship from various places to further reduce our costs so that other players will have less than £35 to pay. I expect to get the price down to £30 a board; if I get enough I will further reduce the price for juniors.
Mr Nigel Short MBE is donating one of his 'Greatest Hits' DVD's as a best game prize as well as offering a substantial discount on any purchases of the DVD's on the day.
CJ is providing some book prizes.
The ECF have donated: FIVE free credits for their Certificate of Merit Scheme.
You can find details of the ECF certificate of merit scheme at:
www.certificateofmerit.org.uk
Each credit is worth £6.
The credits will be awarded to the juniors/junior either as a best junior prize or distributed between the juniors to encourage them in their quest to improve. Not sure yet, but advice would be most welcome.
