I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Steve Jacquest, I had known Steve through chess and was fortunate to play him in congresses where we had a couple of exciting games! I last spoke to Steve at Blackpool 2010 when he said he was hoping to organise the Ormskirk rapidplay that year, unfortunately I missed the event due to Holiday commitments. Steve told me about his condition and we had hoped for a positive outcome. Being a Cancer survivor myself, I know all too well about the vagaries of the disease, I admired Steves calm spirit in facing his plight which was akin to his demeanour at the chessboard, and will hope to make it to Ormskirk this October in memory of a true gentleman!
